The 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit is being held this week in Gyeongju, South Korea, with the main event, the Economic Leaders' Meeting, taking place from October 31 to November 1. Taiwan is represented for the third time by Presidential Senior Advisor Lim Shin-eui, who will lead the delegation to the summit and engage in exchanges with leaders and high-level economic and trade officials from other countries.

One of the focal points of this summit is the interaction between the US and Chinese leaders. US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to hold their second meeting on September 30th, Trump's first face-to-face meeting since returning to the White House. The two sides are anticipated to discuss issues such as US-China tariffs, rare earth export restrictions, and the US ban on TikTok. Observers are watching to see if this can bring a turning point to the tense relationship between the two countries.

Taiwan's delegation is strong, including Lin Hsin-yi, Chief Negotiator of the Office of the Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Yang Chen-ni; Chairman of the National Science Council, Wu Cheng-wen; Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sun Chien-yuan; and Director-General of the Administration of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Liu Wei-lien. Whether Yang Chen-ni will meet with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer during the meeting is considered a key indicator of Taiwan-U.S. economic and trade interactions.

The business world is also paying close attention. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang will attend the APEC Business Leaders Summit on October 31 and deliver a speech, where he is expected to share forward-looking technological visions such as AI, robotics, autonomous driving, and digital twins, making it one of the most anticipated highlights of the summit for the technology community.
