NEW YORK - The Federal Government of Germany has renewed its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support sustainable development globally. Germany has also supported the Accelerator Labs again enabling the successful completion and scaling-up of this UNDP innovation programme. This comes at a time when UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo, only weeks into his mandate, starts his visit to some of UNDP’s partners in Berlin to thank Germany for its steadfast support.

This support comes at a critical moment as the world confronts unprecedented challenges—including health emergencies, climate change, conflict, and natural disasters. It will empower UNDP to respond rapidly to crises, safeguard lives and livelihoods, and protect hard-won development gains.  Aligned with the new UNDP Strategic Plan (2026–2029), Germany’s contribution will bolster efforts to deliver integrated, scalable solutions that advance human development while protecting the planet.

The flexible nature of core funding enables UNDP to adapt swiftly to crises, prioritising support for the most vulnerable communities—particularly women and girls, who are often the hardest hit. Whether supporting communities in Ukraine, Gaza, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Haiti or beyond, this funding ensures that development gains are protected, and resilience is built in the world’s most fragile contexts.

Thanks to core funding, UNDP acts as a multiplier of development resources, catalyzing every development dollar for maximum impact in more than 170 countries and regions. In 2024, UNDP mobilized $7.4 in other resources for every dollar of core received. Core contributions also play a crucial role in strengthening UNDP’s oversight and accountability functions. They ensure that programmes are delivered effectively, efficiently, and transparently. UNDP is consistently ranked among the most transparent international organizations.

Germany’s contribution reaffirms its unwavering commitment to multilateralism, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to demonstrating the importance of international cooperation in tackling today’s global issues and making our world more secure and prosperous. UNDP looks forward to continuing the close collaboration with Germany and our shared mission for a more equitable and prosperous world, where no one is left behind
