(Deutsche Welle) After the EU fined X €120 million last Friday for violating EU digital regulations, Elon Musk posted on his X account: "The EU should be dissolved and sovereignty should be returned to individual countries so that governments can better represent the people."

When a user retweeted Musk's comment, he responded, "I'm serious, not joking."

“I love Europe, but the EU is such a bureaucratic monster that I’m disgusted,” he added in another post.

The Trump administration in the United States also quickly criticized the EU's punishment.

The European Commission's fine against Platform X marks the first time a penalty has been imposed under the Digital Services Act (DSA) for content violations. The Commission stated that Platform X breached the DSA's transparency obligations. The violations included the platform's deceptive "blue checkmark" design for so-called "verified accounts," a lack of transparency regarding advertising, and failure to provide researchers with public access to data.
